The Fort
Residential 2020 Fall / Red Hook, Brookly
2050 greenland, the wastes we give to the ocean is giving back to us.
This project is put in the scenario of 2050, in response to the question of "what is the future 22nd century urban green space" and " how do we design for the future".
Human beings will be living in a very limited (last) green land by 2050. Within this greenland, the project strives to obtain the last amenity. New York City may become the last “fort” for human survival. The port existing now may no longer exist in the 2050s and will be replaced by a oceanic garbage collecting space. Human may no longer rely on the nature, but begin to create artifical nature to get delights. This artificial nature could be completely controlled by machine and bio-technology to create a “real” feeling for visitors and users.
The Fort could be a man-made machine which being experimental in a way to explpore how can we deal with the garbage, water pollution and greening. The building material is mainly the recycling material from garbage. The Fort will be continously built up in future centuries, and will be more and more activated. The prohject aims to turn the port into a fort that protects human beings from the hostile environment, provide them a permanent living space.
The Fort could function as a new version of Ellis Island: serving with several ferry terminals and strong connection to JFK, we can take global refuges in and sending local resources out.
